Clever 2-stroke Measurement

It’s a cause of frustration for everyone who owns a mower, chainsaw or outboard powered by a 2-stroke engine – getting the fuel/oil ratio right. No matter how careful you try to be, there’s always the nagging worry that the mixture is not right and too much oil will foul the spark plug and cause smoking, whilst too little reduces lubrication and could burn the pistons and plug. But now there is a clever device that takes out all the guesswork and it has just gone on sale in New Zealand. It’s called Mix Mizer, a simple tool that accurately measures the oil-to-petrol ratio and makes sure that the right amount of oil is used. It is part of the FloTool range distributed in New Zealand by Griffiths Equipment and sold in auto accessory and hardware outlets throughout the country. “Everyone with a 2-stroke engine will have had issues getting the mixture right, so this will be a godsend,” says Bruce Walker, Sales Manager for Griffiths Equipment. Mix Mizer is designed as a suction tube, with calibrations that equate to the most popular oil/petrol ratios used in 2-stroke engines. It is calibrated for use with both litres/half litres and US gallons/quarts/pints, from a lean 100:1 mix, down to 16:1. “You only need to know out how many litres or US gallons are in the tank you want to mix with oil and then draw up the amount of oil into the Mix Mizer that matches the ratio used in the engine and inject – very simple, no guesswork and it’s very clean to use,” adds Mr Walker. The Mix Mizer also comes with a handy extension tube for adding to tanks in hard-to-reach areas. It’s made from tough polypropylene and is resistant to attack from chemicals, petrol and oil. The US-made FloTool brand is also known for its ingenious range of funnels that offer easy ways to re-fill oil, fuel or any other liquids around cars, trucks, garden equipment and boats, which were introduced to New Zealand last...

QuikSteel Makes Quick Repair To Steel

QuikSteel is set to become one of the handiest items to have in the toolbox. It’s a handy putty that can be moulded into any shape or squeezed into a gap or hole and it literally hardens like steel. Just introduced to the New Zealand market by leading automotive products distributor Griffiths Equipment, QuikSteel is a revolutionary product that has already found thousands of uses in overseas markets. It will mend just about anything that’s made from metal, fibreglass, plastic, glass wood, ceramics or brick. “It’s an amazing product and can be used to make permanent repairs to a whole range of things, from fuel tanks, radiators, engine blocks, gaskets and mufflers and even plastic grilles – there’s lots of things it can be used for around the home, too,” says Bruce Walker, Sales Manager for Griffiths Equipment. QuickSteel comes in a tube and the putty-like material can be fashioned into shape before it starts to set in around 4-to-5 minutes. Within 15 minutes it is as hard as steel and is fully cured in one hour. It will even cure under water, so it ideal for fixing radiators or pipe leaks. It can withstand heat up for 260-degrees Centigrade or 500-degrees Fahrenheit, so is ideal for use on very hot surfaces, such as engines or even ovens. Once cured, it can be drilled, filed, sanded and even tapped to take a bolt or screw thread, just like the original piece of metal. QuikSteel has a shear strength of 740 pounds per square inch and a tensile strength of 6,200 pounds per square inch, so is immensely strong. It’s also impervious to chemicals, oils, solvents, including petrol and diesel and most acids, including battery acid, so can be used to permanently repair a cracked or damaged automotive battery casing. And because it’s not actually metal, it does not conduct electricity, meaning it can also be used as an insulating material. Mr Walker says the QuikSteel range includes other products that are formulated to work with specific materials that will also be offered in New Zealand. These include: QuikSteel Epoxy Paste, a two-part epoxy that is easily mixed for numerous uses on household items, furniture etc QuikSteel Aluminium Epoxy Putty, ideal for fixing items made from alloy, ranging from car wheels to step ladders and much more QuikSteel Plastic Repair Epoxy Putty, which is specially formulated to be used on...

Vivid New Colour Range for Plasti Dip

Now there is an even more colourful way to make household items or garden implements stand out. It’s called Plasti Dip Blaze, which is a new range of neon colours for this unique, handy product. Plasti Dip is a novel and ingenious way to cover just about any surface with a synthetic rubber coating that protects and insulates. The multi-purpose air-dry, synthetic rubber coating can easily be applied by spraying, brushing or dipping and, because it remains flexible and stretchy, it doesn’t become brittle or crack. The wide colour range has now been expanded to include the bright new eye-catching colours; Blaze Blue, Blaze Orange, Blaze Pink, Blaze Green, Blaze Purple and Blaze Yellow. The new Blaze collection, which comes in 311gram aerosol cans, applies just as easily as the rest of the Plasti Dip range to most substrates/surfaces to create a protective coating that is easy to grip and non-slip. Although they have only just entered the market, the new Blaze range is already selling well and several new Plasti Dip products are being lined up for launch in New Zealand in the near future. “Plasti Dip is such a useful product for bringing old household or gardens items back to life, there are literally thousands of uses for it,” says Bruce Walker, of  Griffiths Equipment, distributor of Plasti Dip in New Zealand. “The new Blaze colours are designed for items that people may want to stand out, either for safety reasons – such as electrical wiring, or wooden steps – to things they may want to be able to spot easily or just to really jazz them up, maybe wooden playing blocks for young children. It’s perfectly safe.” Plasti Dip can stick to most hard surfaces, including metal, wood, glass, masonry and other plastics, making is extremely versatile. The Americans refer to it as ‘like duct tape in a can’ because of the hundreds of uses.” Originally developed to apply plastic coatings to replace worn grips on hand tools, such as pliers, wrenches and cutters it has become a household name around the world. Provided they are dry and free of rot/rust, surfaces coated with Plasti Dip will resist moisture, weathering, corrosion, abrasion and some acids. It is claimed to be UV stable for between seven and ten years and can withstand significant temperature extremes. Once dried, Plasti Dip is very durable and will not slip, pucker...
