The Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting and enhancing intellectual property protection across Asia, including Australia and New Zealand. APAA brings together patent attorneys and intellectual property professionals to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and engage with emerging issues in patents, trade marks, copyright, designs, and other forms of intellectual property.
The New Zealand Group of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association Incorporated (APAA NZ) was incorporated in 1979 with the aim of furthering the work of APAA. APAA NZ's members include patent attorneys, trade mark attorneys, and lawyers who work in the field of intellectual property.
APAA NZ's executive committee members are Sophie Thoreau (President), John Glengarry (Vice-President), Raymond Scott (Secretary/Treasurer), Lynell Tuffery Huria, Tom Robertson, Hamish Selby, Elena Szentivanyi, and Colin Woodroffe.
The 79th Council Meeting of APAA will take place in Hong Kong between 29 November and 2 December 2026. Bringing together intellectual property professionals from across Asia and beyond, the conference provides an important forum for exchanging knowledge, discussing developments in IP law and practice, and strengthening professional relationships across jurisdictions.
A key feature of the conference will be the combination of substantive professional content and valuable networking opportunities. The programme includes Standing Committee meetings covering areas such as patents, trade marks, copyright, designs, anti-counterfeiting, and emerging intellectual property issues, together with workshops and roundtable discussions. Participants can also take advantage of dedicated networking meetings, and a programme of social and cultural events, creating opportunities to exchange ideas, develop new connections and build lasting professional relationships in an engaging international setting.
